Sotteville-sur-Mer

In our charming village of Sotteville-sur-Mer, on the Côte d'Albâtre, nature, sport and culture activities are on the program for your successful vacation in Normandy!

In addition to essential amenities in the immediate vicinity of your campsite, such as the bakery or the village butcher, this small seaside resort offers the many leisure activities of the nearby sea and its expanses of countryside bordering the cliffs.

Description

The sea first of all for relaxation, idleness, beach games, to breathe the sea spray and look out to sea, Sotteville beach is one of the most beautiful of the region! It is accessible by an immense and spectacular staircase of no less than 231 steps.

WARNING! following a cliff slide in early 2023, the Sotteville-sur-Mer staircase is temporarily closed to the public!

In good weather, water activities are on the program. Relaxation and swimming in the sea with the family for bursts of laughter and precious moments of sharing that will be remembered.

Fans of fishing on foot or by line, it's time to take out your equipment! Here, we fish for both shellfish and shore fish. Large pink or gray shrimp, limpets, crabs, sea spiders, crabs and whelks are on the crustaceans and seafood program. If you prefer to put on your fisherman's outfit and take out your best rod, the waters are rich in soles, dabs, cod or even bass, mullet and conger eels (watch out for your fingers!). At the foot of the cliffs, where sandbanks and beaches of pebbles polished by the surf alternate, during your family walks, you can discover real treasures, fossils to contemplate and study with the children.

Going back to the top of the cliffs, you will discover a vast countryside ideal for hiking, cycling and horse riding. Numerous itineraries are offered to you in a natural and preserved landscape, magnificent and invigorating.

For lovers and connoisseurs of religious heritage, the Val chapel is the last vestige of a 12th century leprosarium. You will appreciate the bell tower as well as the altar and its oak altarpiece. Still in religious heritage, the discovery continues with that of the Notre-Dame church. Built under Saint-Louis, it was consecrated in 1252 and remodeled in the 16th century, when the walls were rebuilt in local sandstone. The stained glass windows are splendid, particularly the extraordinarily colored glass roofs, and the beautifully carved pillars attract the attention of visitors.
